In a landmark deal for India's drone industry, General Catalyst, a prominent US-based venture capital firm, has led a $100 million funding round in Raphe mPhibr, a New Delhi-based drone manufacturing startup. This investment marks the largest private funding round in the Indian drone sector, signaling strong global interest in the country’s burgeoning defense technology landscape.
Raphe mPhibr, known for its innovative unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), plans to utilize the capital to scale up its research and development (R&D) efforts and enhance local manufacturing capabilities. The company aims to meet the rising demand for drones in military operations and border surveillance, both within India and internationally.
The funding comes at a pivotal time as drones play an increasingly critical role in modern warfare and security. Raphe mPhibr’s drones have already made an impact, notably participating in Operation Sindoor, showcasing their potential in real-world applications. This success has further fueled investor confidence in the startup’s vision.
With support from existing investors like Amal Parikh and Think Investments, Raphe mPhibr’s total funding now stands at $145 million. The company is poised to expand its footprint as India’s largest drone R&D and manufacturing hub, aligning with the government’s push for self-reliance in aerospace and defense technology.
The Indian government has also tripled its investment in drone technology to $470 million for the coming year, reflecting a national commitment to strengthening this sector. This policy support, combined with private investments like General Catalyst’s, positions companies like Raphe mPhibr at the forefront of global defense innovation.
As geopolitical tensions drive demand for advanced UAVs, Raphe mPhibr’s growth could redefine India’s role in the international drone market.
